Major Climate Investments in 2024
This year United State's administration has been rolling out a groundbreaking $7 billion investment in solar energy projects nationwide, prioritizing underserved communities and kickstarting a series of monumental climate actions. These funds will be used through the Environmental Protection Agency's "solar for all" program, a vital component of last year's bipartisan Inflation Reduction Act. This funding, benefiting over 900,000 households across the USA, will primarily target low-income and disadvantaged areas, fostering economic revitalization and environmental justice.
These solar projects are projected to create an impressive 200,000 jobs while advancing the Justice40 initiative, which ensures that at least 40% of the benefits from federal climate and clean energy investments go to communities disproportionately impacted by pollution and neglect. This investment has the potential to generate over $8 billion in electric bill savings for vulnerable households over the program's lifespan.
That's not all! A new website for the American Climate Corp has been launched, inviting Americans to join the volunteer organization modeled after the Civilian Conservation Corps. This initiative aims to fill 20,000 positions nationwide, offering opportunities to work on clean energy and climate resilience projects.
These announcements build on recent climate measures, including restricting oil and gas leases in Alaska and finalizing federal land management rules prioritizing conservation. This year, we have reason to celebrate continued steps towards protecting our air and water protection, reducing pollution, and creating a more sustainable future for our planet.
